Donovan Draper named Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy junior forward Donovan Draper was named Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week when the League office announced weekly honors on Monday. Holy Cross freshman guard Max Green claimed rookie of the week honors for the third straight week.

Draper received his first Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists during Navy’s 2-0 opening week of League play. He connected on Navy’s game-winning shot with 2.1 seconds left in a 71-70 win against Lafayette on Sunday.

Green collected his fifth Patriot League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week and third in as many weeks after averaging 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game to help the Crusaders go 1-1 to start League play.

American graduate student forward Matt Rogers, Bucknell junior center Noah Williamson, Colgate fifth-year center Jeff Woodward, Lehigh sophomore guard Cam Gillus and Loyola Maryland sophomore guard Jordan Stiemke earned honorable mentions for their performances last week.

The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s men’s basketball athletics communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Donovan Draper, Navy, Jr., F, West Palm Beach, Fla./Forest Hill

*Draper averaged 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game to help Navy go 2-0 with wins against American (81-58) and Lafayette (71-70) during the first week of League play.

*The junior forward recorded a double-double with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting, to go with 11 rebounds and a career-high eight assists in the victory against the Eagles.

*He made the game-winning shot with 2.1 seconds left against Lafayette, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Max Green, Holy Cross, Fr., G, La Grange, Ky./Oldham County

*Green averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists to help Holy Cross split its first two of League play.

*The freshman guard recorded 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the Crusaders’ 74-72 victory over Loyola Maryland on Thursday. His jumper with 27.7 seconds remaining put Holy Cross in front for good.

*He finished with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in a loss against American on Sunday.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Matt Rogers, American, Gr., F, Knoxville, Md./St. Maria Goretti

*Rogers averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists on 52.6 percent (10-of-19) shooting to help American go 1-1 last week, including a victory against Holy Cross. He finished with 18 points, shooting 4-of-5 from 3-point range to go with a team-best four assists against the Crusaders.

Noah Williamson, Bucknell, Jr., C, Riga, Latvia/St. Thomas More (Conn.)

*Williamson averaged 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in a pair of double-doubles last week to help the Bison split two games. He posted 20 points and 10 rebounds in Bucknell’s 66-60 win against Colgate on Sunday. The junior center finished with 17 points and 10 boards in an overtime loss at Lehigh on Thursday.

Jeff Woodward, Colgate, 5th-year, C, Audubon, Pa./Methacton

*Woodward led the Raiders with 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds to split their first two games in League play. The fifth-year center matched a career-high with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting in Colgate’s 71-59 victory over Army West Point on Thursday. He finished with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with six rebounds against Bucknell.

Cam Gillus, Lehigh, So., G, Falls Church, Va./Sidwell Friends

*Gillus averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists while shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) from the floor and 40 percent (6-for-15) from beyond the arc. He finished with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists in the Mountain Hawks 66-64 overtime win vs. Bucknell. The sophomore guard registered for 25 points, tied a career-high with eight rebounds and a career-high six steals in a loss vs. Loyola Maryland.

Jordan Stiemke, Loyola Maryland, So., G, Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright/Loomis Chaffee

*Stiemke averaged 22.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game to help the Greyhounds open League play 1-1. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the Greyhounds’ 80-74 win against Lehigh on Sunday. He scored 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a two-point loss vs. Holy Cross in their League opener on Thursday.
